Qureshi says US drone strikes are causing “alienation” in Pak
Prague, Mar. 14: Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that US drone strikes are causing “alienation” within his country.
“There is collateral damage that accompanies these attacks, and it leads to alienation,” The News quoted him, as saying.
Qureshi said any measure to root out extremism from Pakistan’s borders would have to be in consent with the regional population.
“If we want a success in this fight against extremism and terrorism, we have to carry the people along,” Qureshi told reporters in Prague after meeting European Union officials here.
On Thursday, a suspected US drone strike killed 24 people in Pakistan.
Though Qureshi praised the unmanned drone missiles, which destroyed a Taliban training camp in Pakistan on Thursday as “superior technology,” he also warned the US to weigh the pros and cons of its tactics.
“The US government should weigh the advantages with the disadvantages. If these disadvantages outweigh the advantages, we feel there is a case to review the strategy,” he said. (ANI)
