Pune voters have high expectationsPune, Oct 12 : As Maharashtra goes to poll on October 13, expectations of voters in Pune were high from who would represent them.

Residents say that the city, coping with the country''s first and highest number of swine flu cases, has a woefully inadequate public transport system. Water and power shortages add to things getting worse.

"We want such candidates in polls who are able to solve traffic and water problems. Also, he should make sure that benefits meant for the poor section should reach them," said Pallavi, a housewife.

" The candidate should be such who would not use any muscle power or violence. He should do his job well and he should be well educated," said Sriram, a shop owner.

Nominees of prominent political parties-alliance of the Congress- Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), the Shiv Sena- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-- are testing their luck for the polls, for which campaign ended on Sunday.

Tuesday''s elections in three states will be the first major test for the Congress coalition after a strong victory in the general election in May.

Votes will be counted on October 22. (ANI)
