Proteas series win against Australia better than World Cup: Kallis
Melbourne, Dec. 31: South African cricketing all rounder Jacques Kallis has described his team's series win over Australia as good as winning the World Cup.
"It is up there with winning the World Cup, if not better. What better place do you want to do it? I have had some individual high moments here, but ... this takes the cake, having won a Test match here," Kallis said.
"All the younger generation, I don''t think they appreciate just how tough a place Australia is to tour," he added.
Kallis as also other South African players are literally struggling to find words to describe their jubilation over the series victory.
Fast bowler Dale Steyn, who deservedly was named the man of the match after the Melbourne Test, was quoted by Fox Sports as saying: "I don''t know what the word is to describe what I am feeling right now. I am just privileged that I have got this tick next to the one battle I wanted to win."
Graeme Smith said: "To sit here knowing that we have accomplished this and we have done it is incredible. It is a difficult one to describe. You have just got to smile and often that is the best way to describe it."
Despite his painful elbow injury, the opener has scored 293 runs at 73.25 in four innings in Australia and finishes the year with the most Test runs of any cricketer.
He believed few would argue with his assessment that the series victory was South Africa''s crowning achievement.
"It has got to be the best. I mean, no disrespect for anything that has gone before us, because we are very respectful of the history of our game and all the people who had opportunities before us and the people who never had opportunities. But I think for us, it has got to be the most incredible season South Africa has ever had. I am just thrilled with the results that we have got and I don''t think anyone would argue with that," Smith said. (ANI)
