Brisbane, Nov 25 : West Indies skipper Chris Gayle has said his team should leave behind the problematic build-up that they have had to the first Test at the Gabba and play like professionals.

Gayle has missed practice games ahead of the Frank Worrell Trophy to attend his sick mom, and arrived back in Brisbane on Wednesday morning barely 24 hours before the three-Test series opener gets underway.

To make matters worse, middle order batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan had to be assisted from Allan Border Field on Wednesday morning after suffering a back injury during a fielding drill. A final decision on his fitness and availability will be made before the toss.

“It is something we have to deal with, but we are not looking for any excuses - we are all big men here,” The Herald Sun quoted Gayle, as saying.

“You have to handle the business out in the middle regardless of what has been happening off the field,” he added.

The 30-year-old further said that he personally is in a difficult situation, but would try his level best to lead the team from the front.

“It is always difficult to come in the day before a Test match, but I will try and prepare mentally because I know it will be a tough task ahead. I will try and lead from the front,” Gayle said.

“It won''t be easy. But after hitting a few balls in the nets this morning I feel confident,” he added. (ANI)
