Priya exhorts women to join IYC

Congress Parliamentarian allays fears of joining politics

Congress MP Priya Dutt on Friday participated in a women's meet organised by the Vadodara Congress to boost the membership drive of the Youth Congress.

The membership drive, initiated by the Youth Congress president, Rahul Gandhi, aims, at a broader level, to bring about a change in the political system. After the success of such an initiative in Punjab, the Youth Congress is now working hard to bring more youths in politics. With this objective, the Youth Congress has initiated a membership drive across the state. Rahul Gandhi has himself visited almost all parts of the state to generate enthusiasm among the youth to join the Youth Congress.

At the meet here, Priya Dutt exhorted girls and women to join the youth wing. During her interaction with them, Priya answered their queries. The girls asked various questions pertaining to entry in politics. A negative feeling towards politics was palpable. There were apprehensions about joining a political party, as reflected in the questions that the MP faced from the participants.

Answering questions, she said, "Rahul Gandhi has planned elections for various posts in the Youth Congress to bring greater democracy in the organisation. This is a process to bring about change in politics. It will be beneficial in changing the shape of politics in the country. So, don't remain aloof from politics."

Priya Dutt talked on various issues related to the Gujarat Congress. She admitted the need for a revamp at the state level. In a conversation with DNA, she said, "I do agree that there is need for good leadership at the state level. I shall put forward my views to the authorities concerned." She avoided commenting on Narendra Modi.
