Privacy controls to be simplified by Facebook
It will simplify privacy controls after complaints by members about its handling of personal information, U. S.-based social networking site Facebook has said.
The Financial Times reported on Thursday that some members have considered deleting their accounts after critical media stories led several well-known technology commentators and bloggers to remove their data from the site and recommend others consider such a move.
The search engine company also said that searches on Google for the phrase "delete Facebook account" have doubled in the past week.
The Times also said that Facebook denies losing any significant number of members but has responded with additional efforts to help users change and control their own privacy settings.
Elliot Schrage, Facebook's vice president of public policy, said, "We have always acknowledged that there is a difficult balance between precision ... of the controls and simplicity and ease of use."
Schrage said, "As a result of some of the recent announcements, we may have moved ... too far away from simplicity and ease of use. We think we need to take steps to move back in the other direction." (With Inputs from Agencies)
