President Mukherjee to give his first Republic Day address to nation today
New Delhi, Jan 25 : President Pranab Mukherjee will give his first Republic Day address to the nation on Friday evening.
His speech will be telecast on all channels of Delhi Doordarshan in English at 7 p. m .
Later his address will be telecast in Hindi as well.
His address to the nation will also be telecast in all channels of All India Radio in English and Hindi at 7 p. m.
Meanwhile, Saturday''s Republic Day celebrations will see breath-taking manoeuvres by a Sukhoi warplane, a colourful display of India''s cultural heritage and a march past by India''s armed forces during a parade down Rajpath, the central vista of national capital New Delhi.
Along with modern weaponry systems, contingents from armed forces, paramilitary forces and NCC cadets will be marching to the beat of the bands during the parade.
The military strength of the country will be on display with the MBT Arjun Tank, Armoured Ambulance Tracked Vehicle, BrahMos missiles, 214 mm Pinaka rockets and 15 Metre Sarvatra Bridging System taking part in the parade.
About 19 tableaux from various states and ministries will also be on display.
Security has been strengthened across the national capital ahead of Republic Day parade tomorrow, with the security establishment leaving no stoned unturned to ensure an incident-free event.
A massive ground-to-air security apparatus has also been put in place.
Snipers will be deployed at high-rise buildings while over 160 CCTVs will keep a tight vigil on people''s movement between Rajpath and Red Fort, the route of the parade which showcases India''s military might and cultural diversity.
Mobile hit teams, anti-aircraft guns and sharpshooters of National Security Guards will be deployed at various places while paramilitary and Delhi Police commandos will keep a close watch.
A multi-layer security ring has already been put in place at Rajpath, where President Pranab Mukherjee will unfurl the tricolour and take the salute of marching contingents.
Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck will be the chief guest at the 64th Republic Day Parade this year. (ANI)
