Power Ministry suggests incentivisation of surplus coal productionSurplus coal production should be incentivised to encourage production of the fuel from captive mines, the Power Ministry has reportedly suggested.

A source from the Coal Ministry said that the Power Ministry has suggested incentivising of surplus coal production, saying it would help more produce more coal amid severe shortages of the fuel in the country.

Speaking on the topic, the source said, "Ministry of Power desires that the production of surplus coal may be incentivised."

The source added that the Coal Ministry had asked for comments from various ministries like Power, Law, Finance and Railways on the draft policy for the usage of surplus coal.

Meanwhile, the meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) will now take place on 7th of May to decide on the establishment of regulatory authority for the coal sector. Previously, the meeting was to take place today, 6th of May.

The Ministry of Power reportedly wants the government to equip the regulator with the fuel pricing power, but the Coal Ministry is opposed to it.
