Police has said that a power failure in the Seattle neighborhood around the University of Washington set off a riot on fraternity row early Tuesday.

Seattlepi. com has reported that more than 1,000 young people took to the streets, chanting "Go Huskies" and setting couches on fire. The confrontation with police lasted for about two hours, long after power was restored to the area.

Electricity was cut in the University City neighborhood after a downed tree damaged a power line at about 11:30 p. m. on Monday, Seattle City Light said. The damage was repaired and power was restored in 45 minutes.

According to the official reports, the crowd in the streets refused at least two police orders to disperse, instead chanting for more couches and more fires. Some of the young people threw bottles and cans at police officers, with one officer taking a hit in the chest and another one in the helmet.

One man stripped off his clothes and ran naked through the crowd, getting high-fives.

Though, no injuries or arrests were reported. The crowed obeyed the third dispersal order, issued by the police. (With Inputs from Agencies)
