Reykjavik - True to its word, the new Icelandic government has called for the three central bank governors to step down, Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir said.
Speaking on a talk show on Icelandic television Monday evening, Sigurdadottir who took office Sunday, said she had sent a letter to the governors asking them to resign.
Bangkok - Less that two months into its administration, Thailand's new government lost its first minister to a corruption scandal on Tuesday with the resignation of Social Development and Human Security Minister Witoon Nambutr.
"I am resigning in a show of political spirit, although I admit it is painful," said Witoon, a member of the Democrat Party.

Sarkozy, who celebrates his first wedding anniversary with Bruni today, told Le Point magazine that the views of his glamorous third wife mean a lot to him.

Taipei - Taiwan's former vice president announced plans Sunday to start a newspaper to advocate for Taiwanese independence from China.
Annette Lu, 64, who ended two terms as vice president in May, held a luncheon in Taipei to raise funds for the afternoon paper, the Formosa Post, scheduled to begin publication July 1.
Lu raised 13 million Taiwan dollars (400,000 US dollars) at the event but said she needs 600 million (18 million US) to start the paper, and is recruiting reporters.
