PM Manmohan Singh Confident of Government's Performance

Speaking to the media on his way back to the Country, the PM was calm and PM Manmohan Singh Confident of Government's Performancecomposed. After successfully pulling off the Nuclear deal with France and positive response from the President of Pakistan on all issues, Mr. Singh said, “We have given this country a purposeful government, a government which by-and-large has the support of all constituents of our coalition”. 

The PM spoke on various issues ranging from the nuclear deal to land acquisition case in Singur to the terrorist blasts and attacks on Christians. 

The PM stated that the nuclear deal is good for the country and the Left-Front and the BJP must look at it as beneficial for the country.

In the wake of the serial blasts in important cities he said the government was working towards developing mechanisms to counter terrorist activities .With regard to the Home Minister Mr. Patil he said” it is not the question of one individual".

He further emphasized the need to implement humanitarian economic reforms and added "The first and foremost task of any government in our country is to deal with issues of development because poverty, ignorance and disease still affect millions and millions of our countrymen”. 

Towards his plan for the remaining period as P M, he mentioned four broad issues to be tackled immediately. He said Firstly, to safeguard India from the ill-effects of the international financial crisis. Secondly, deal successfully with terrorism and Left-Front insurgency. Thirdly, ensure implementation and running of various social welfare schemes, like the National Rural Employment Programme, Rural Health Mission, the Urban Renewal Mission and the social security program for people below the poverty line. 

Last but not the least containing inflation while maintaining the momentum of growth process. 

On a lighter note the PM said, “It’s too early to talk about the potential prime ministerial candidate for the Congress as there are several leaders who are equally qualified or better qualified than me. I have not applied my mind to that sort of question”.
