Planned Parenthood Direct™ App allows Users to have confidential chlamydia and gonorrhea testing

On Monday, Planned Parenthood Los Angeles (PPLA) has launched a new mobile app through which users can ask for 'confidential' chlamydia and gonorrhea testing through their phone. If user's test report comes out to be positive, treatment can be received through the app or at a local Planned Parenthood health center.

California residents can download the app for free through the Android or Apple app store. Heather Saunders Estes, CEO of Planned Parenthood Northern California, said that people have high expectations from Planned Parenthood that it will provide correct health information and expert care.

"Planned Parenthood DirectT is very convenient and it brings the confidential, non-judgmental health services that Planned Parenthood already provides into the privacy of your own home", said Estes.

Once the app is downloaded, its test kit is sent to users through mail having step-by-step instructions. Users are required to send their urine sample to Planned Parenthood labs and they can get the test results through our secure app.

If the result comes out positive then users are informed on how they can have treatment. Planned Parenthood DirectT uses same tests that patients in their health centers use. Estes said they have developed the app so that they can reach tech-savvy people who might not have to visit a health center. It is also meant for people who are more comfortable with privacy that a mail-in STD test provides.

Estes said the app is also great for people living in rural and other hard-to-reach areas.
