Pizarro returns to Bremen
Bremen, Germany - Peru striker Claudio Pizarro returned to Werder Bremen from Chelsea Tuesday on a three-year contract.
Bremen are thought to have paid around 5 million euros (7 million dollars) for the 30-year-old who played for the Bundesliga club last season on loan.
Pizarro was presented at a news conference with coach Thomas Schaaf and general manager Klaus Allofs.
"It is important that we've again got a player of his quality in our ranks. We will all profit from it," Schaaf said.
Pizarro scored 29 goals for the German cup winners in three competitions last season, including 17 in the league.
It will be his second permanent spell for the club he played for between 1999 and 2001 before he spent six years at Bayern Munich.
Pizarro will be in contention for a place in the Werder side in Thursday's Europa League qualifying match against Kazakh outfit FK Aktobe. His league debut in the current campaign could come Sunday against Borussia Moenchengladbach.
After last season's loan spell at Werder, Pizarro returned to the Premier League for pre-season training with Chelsea.
Although he played for the Londoners under new coach Carlo Ancelotti during the club's pre-season US tour he was not in the squad in Saturday's Premier League opener against Hull City.
"I am glad to be back at Werder," he said. "I had offers from Greece, Turkey and other English clubs."(dpa)
