Petrol is consumer’s favourite

While products like Swift and Dzire are doing wonders for Maruti Suzuki under the diesel category, but the sales of petrol-driven cars has seen a sudden jump in a scenario where most of the carmakers have been ramping up their diesel engine capacity to meet huge demand. Shashank Srivastava, Maruti's chief general manager (marketing) said that the sale of petrol version is rising but the sales of the diesel variant is high in the case of Swift and Dzire.

However, Srivastava also pointed out the fact that the company sell close to 37% in Petrol with Swift but it is up by 5% as compare to the last year.

It is believed that the price hikes in the diesel segment is the factor why consumers are shying away from the segment.

Notably, the difference in petrol and diesel price was around Rs 15 in Delhi, when petrol was sold at Rs 47.51/litre and diesel Rs 32.47/ litre in June 2006 but the difference is Rs 11.56 today.
