Washington, Jan 24 : Hollywood actor Tom Hanks has apologized to the members of the Mormon community for calling them "un-American" for backing the gay marriage ban in California.

Hanks was reportedly upset with the Mormons for lending support to Proposition 8, which bans same-sex marriages.

Tom Hanks stated then: "The truth is a lot of Mormons gave a lot of money to the church to make Prop-8 happen. There are a lot of people who feel that is un-American, and I am one of them."

Supporting the equal rights of every citizen, the actor expressed his discontent with the passing of the proposition and raised his voice against discrimination.

Washington, Dec 16 : More than 130 Hollywood celebrities, including George Clooney and Tom Hanks have signed a letter discouraging members of the Screen Actors'' Guild (SAG) from striking.

The SAG wants to strike over what it sees as an unfair contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), reports Contactmusic.

Studios were alarmed by SAG''s public support for the striking Writers'' Guild of America (WGA) during their three-month industrial action.

However, with the economic climate uncertain, many high-profile actors are resolutely against a strike.
