Nepalese prime minister holds talks with Indian leaders

New Delhi - Nepal's Maoist Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal DahalNepal's Maoist Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Monday held talks with Indian leaders on enhancing trade and economic ties as well as joint flood-control measures.

The visit by Dahal, popularly known as Prachanda, was planned to redefine relations between the neighbouring countries.

Bilateral ties are strained over the flooding of the Kosi river that flows from the Himalayan country into India's Bihar state.

Prachanda met with President Pratibha Patil and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee at the start of a five-day visit to India.

New Delhi, Sept 15: Pushpa Kamal Dahal meets Mukherjee, AdvaniNepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda today met External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and the leader of the Opposition L. K. Advani and discussed issues of mutual interest.

Later, Prachanda called on President Pratibha Patil at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Prachanda, who is here on a five-day official visit, will hold discussions with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on various bilateral and regional issues in the evening.

He is likely to seek India''s help in drafting the Constitution of his country.

New Delhi, Sept 14 :Prachanda to seek India’s help in drafting new Nepali Constitution Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda, who is here on a five-day official visit, will hold discussions with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on various bilateral and regional issues today.

He is likely to seek India’s help in drafting the Constitution of his country.

During his talks, Prachanda will aim to review the 1950 Indo-Nepal Trade and Transit Treaty, besides crisis over the Saptakoshi embankment and other agreements.

Prime Minister Dahal met the outgoing Prime Minister and the opposition Nepali Congress (NC) President Girija Prasad Koirala later today. Dahal went to Koirala’s residence at Maharajgunj in the afternoon. This was the first time the duo met since Dahal was elected the Prime Minister.
