Davos - The World Economic Forum's five-day annual jamboree of the global elite will begin here Tuesday with presence of over 2,500 political and business leaders, including union ministers Arun Jaitley and Piyush Goyal as well as more than 100 industry leaders from India.

Other prominent Indian names would include Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramanian, as also Chief Ministers of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh -- Devendra Fadnavis and Chandrababu Naidu, respectively.

Govt to invite bids for 4 UMPPs in 3-6 months: Goyal

New Delhi - The government is looking to start a fresh process of inviting bids for ultra mega power projects (UMPPs) at four locations in the country in the next three-six months, Power Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday said.

"These four proposed UMPPs include two for which we have cancelled the bid and we will be inviting fresh bids, and two more have been identified - one in Bihar and another in Jharkhand," Power Minister Piyush Goyal said on the sidelines of Economic Times Power Summit.

The Minister said he is hopeful the process of inviting bids will start in the next three to six months.

Open up coal sector to enhance production: Advisory Group

New Delhi - Opening up of the coal sector and upgradation of state-run Coal India and its subsidiaries are vital for scaling up domestic production of the dry fuel, says a report submitted to the government on Monday.

The final report of the Advisory Group for Integrated Development of Power, Coal, and Renewable Energy for suggesting measures for enhancement of coal production in the short, medium and long term was presented to Power and Coal Minister Piyush Goyal.

The group, headed by Suresh Prabhu (now Union Minister for Railways) has called for certain improvements in Coal India and its subsidiaries including Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited (CMPDI).

Delhi Metro station country's first to get solar power plantNew Delhi : In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Monday launched the operation of a solar power plant at its Dwarka Sector-21 Metro station.

The plant was inaugurated by Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu at the Metro Bhawan here in the presence of, among others, Union Minister of State for Power, Coal and Renewable Energy, Piyush Goyal, and DMRC Managing Director Mangu Singh.

India's largest solar power plant planned in Madhya Pradesh

Solar PowerBhopal: Plans are afoot to set up the country's largest ultra mega solar power plant (UMSPP) in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district, a senior official said on Thursday.

The plant, to produce 700 MW of electricity, would require an investment of Rs 4,000 crore, State's Additional Chief Secretary for New and Renewable Energy S R Mohanty told.

The electricity from the plant would be available at Rs 5.40 paise per unit, which would be the lowest in the country, Mohanty said.

Coal scams caused shutdown of 65000 MW of power projects:Goyal

Coal scamsMumbai: Coal scams during the tenure of the "previous government" have adversely impacted the availability of coal forcing the power generation projects with collective capacity of 65,000 MW being shut in the country, Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal said here today.

"The availability of coal in the country is adversely affected due to coal scams that have taken place during the tenure of the previous government. Today the situation is such that 65,000 MW of power generation projects are completely shut in India," Goyal said while addressing BJP workers at the party office here.

Piyush GoyalNew Delhi - With Coal Ministry rejecting the Power Ministry's request to provide fuel to 9940 MW plants of companies like Essar Power, GMR and Power, the latter has sought intervention of Coal and Power Minister Piyush Goyal into the matter.

A list of "similarly placed projects" of 4095 MW was sent to the coal ministry for supply of coal... Further 5845 MW has coal blocks, but mining is delayed by one-two years... Hence tapering linkages needs to be given for one-two years, but Ministry of Coal has rejected it on the ground that they have coal blocks," according to an official document.

Power Minister to meet bankers today, to discuss bottlenecks

Piyush GoyalNew Delhi: In a bid to restore investor confidence in electricity generation sector, Power Minister Piyush Goyal will meet bankers on Monday to discuss the financing bottlenecks affecting the industry and the way forward.

Goyal's meeting with the bankers may touch upon the key issues of delayed regulatory clearances which led to banks and other financial institutions shying away from investing in the sector.

"I will meet with the bankers on Monday to resolve the conflicts between the power sector borrowers and the banking sector and find a way forward to resolve their problems," the Minister said.
