London, Aug 13 : Amid news reports that Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf might put in his papers today or tomorrow, his political aides have reportedly said that he might resort to other options available with him, like stepping down or bring about a defection in the PPP, in order to avoid facing impeachment.
Islamabad, Aug 13 : As many as 28 former Pakistani diplomats, including ex-foreign secretaries and ambassadors, have reportedly hailed the present day coalition government’s resolve to bring about an Impeachment Motion against President Pervez Musharraf and reinstate the deposed Supreme Court judges.
The ex-envoys appreciated the federal government’s decision in a statement released after holding a meeting in Islamabad last evening.
Washington, Aug 13 : Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf must resign from the Presidency for the maintenance of law and order in his country, restoration of deposed judges and providing relief to the masses, said US Senator Tom Harkin.
The Senator said this in a statement issued from the White House here.
Islamabad, Aug 13: Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the US had nothing to do with President Pervez Musharraf’s impeachment, an exhaustive charge-sheet of which has been prepared.
He said that the Army Chief Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani was a thorough professional and wanted to strengthen democracy in the country, by not supporting Musharraf.
Talking to journalists after National Youth Award (NYA) ceremony here, the PM said that President’s impeachment would bring about a positive change in the system and it was not against any personality.
Lahore, Aug 13 : US envoy to Pakistan, Anne W Patterson has reportedly urged PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif to consider providing a “safe passage” to President Musharraf.
Reacting to the request, Nawaz said that all decisions would be taken by parliament in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people, reported the Daily Times.
During their meeting, matters relating to the impeachment of Musharraf, the on-going military operation in the Tribal Areas (FATA) and current political situation were discussed.
Islamabad, Aug 13: A senior leader of the King’s Party – the PML-Q – has reportedly said that in the wake of impending Impeachment move against him, President Pervez Musharraf has decided in principle to quit Presidency, and that an announcement in this context is likely to be made by him on or before August 14, Pakistan’s Independence Day.
According to the Daily Times, if Musharraf resigns ahead of the impeachment motion, the ruling coalition will give him a safe passage.
