Chidambaram to visit Jharkhand today

New Delhi, Jan 31: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram will visit Jharkhand today to asses the law and order in naxal-affected states.

Chidambaram to visit Jharkhand todayAccording to sources, during his day-long visit, Chidambaram will meet Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibtey Razi and other senior officials, including official of the CRPF.

His visit to Jharkhand comes following his assurance to the Chief Ministers of the naxal-affected states that he will provide all kinds of assistance to them to tackle the Naxal menace at a meeting in New Delhi on January 7.

Corrective measures needed to be taken to ensure high domestic demand: Home Minister

P ChidambaramChennai, Jan 24, : Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram said on Saturday that corrective measures have to be undertaken to ensure high domestic demand.

The Union Home Minister while delivering a lecture after launching the Bharatiya Yuva Shakthi Trust here, said, "India is not facing recession but only a slowdown and creative measures have to be undertaken to ensure high domestic slowdown."

Chidambaram emphasized on taking corrective measures and said: "While the government is taking fiscal measures, the RBI is taking monetary measures. Government and RBI should work together to work out more stimulus packages."

Mumbai investigation is proceeding along the right lines: Chidambaram

P ChidambaramNew Delhi, Jan 15 : Home Minister P. Chidambaram today said that the investigation into the November 26, 2008 terror attack on Mumbai is proceeding along the right lines, and there is no plan to hand over the probe to the National Investigating Agency (NIA).

The above statement came after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) here today.

R V Raju has been appointed as the Director General of the NIA, Chidambaram told the media after the CCEA meeting here.

Chidambaram asks Army, NSG chief to set-up regional NSG hub’s on time

P ChidambaramNew Delhi, Jan. 13 : Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram met Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor, and National Security Guards (NSG) Chief J K Dutt, here today to discuss the progress in the setting up of regional hubs of the NSG.

Chidambaram asked the two chiefs to fasten the process of setting up the NSG regional hubs. He directed the two chiefs to make the proposed centers in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad operational in the first phase.

After the terror attack on Mumbai on November 26, 2008 the Union government decided to set-up NSG hubs in different regions of the country.

Addressing the Chief Minister''s conference on terrorism here, Chidambaram called for the need for more preparedness to handle sophisticated terror threats and asked the Chief Ministers to put in place a clear command structure to tackle any terrorist threat or attack.
