Pak envoy warns US raids on Taliban, Qaeda in Pak could lead to terror attacks in UKLondon, Sept 14 : Pakistan’s high commissioner to the UK Wajid Shamsul Hasan has reportedly said that American raids on the Taliban and Al-Qaeda targets in Pakistan could provoke terror attacks in London.

He said the US bombings had killed hundreds of civilians, but had failed to eliminate any Al-Qaeda leader.

Labour party pressure increases on British Premier Brown London - Four parliamentarians with Britain's Labour party have challenged Prime Minister Gordon Brown for the party's leadership, calling for internal party leadership elections a week before the annual Labour party conference.

This comes after another member of Brown's government team was fired Friday after pressing for a party leadership election.

Brown's authority has already suffered in recent months after the collapse in electoral support as well as a number of internal party rivalries.

British Prime Minister Gordon BrownLondon, Sep 12: British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has said that he would press Pakistan to allow US and NATO troops in Afghanistan to take a new approach in the hunt for Taliban and al Qaeda-linked militants.

Addressing a news conference, Brown said he would talk to President Asif Ali Zardari to draw up a revised strategy to halt the flow of militants across the border.

US President George W Bush and Brown also discussed the strategy on Afghanistan in a video conference call.

British government gets energy industry to back fuel cost relief

London - The British government Thursday unveiled an industry-backed aid programme of 910 million pounds (1,6 billion dollars) to help households cope with soaring energy prices and to combat what has become known as "fuel poverty."

Prime Minister Gordon Brown said low income earners and pensioners would receive free loft and cavity insulation, while everybody else would be given financial incentives to install energy saving measures over the next 3 years.

More immediately, winter fuel payments for this year would be increased.

The government would legislate to ensure that energy suppliers and electricity producers would provide the funding of the measures and not pass on the costs to consumers.

London, Sept 10 :Brown in a soup over article backing Barack Obama Thanks to a “naïve mistake” by a junior Labour Party official, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has landed in a soup for apparently “backing” Democratic candidate Barack Obama ahead of the US presidential elections in November.

In an article written by the Labour official in Brown’s name, heaps of praise have been showered on Obama, and the Democrats’ policy of “generating the ideas to help people through more difficult times” has been hailed.

The article, however, doesn’t mention anything about McCain or his proposed policies.

Brown vows to lead Britain through times of difficult change
