India should be war ready, says Army chief

Deepak KapoorNew Delhi, Jan 14 : Army chief General Deepak Kapoor today said the country should always be war ready, considering the fragility of the region.

Addressing a gathering of army officials here, General Deepak Kapoor said the country should always maintain a high-level of combat readiness to meet any emergency.

He also added that India''s conventional strength needed to be backed by a declaratory policy underlining the intent to use the strength in order to deter emerging threats.

General Kapoor leaves for South Africa and Botswana

New Delhi, Nov 23 : As part of enhance engagement of the Indian Armed Forces with the militaries of the Indian Ocean region and other prominent military powers, Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor today left for a week-long visit to South Africa and Botswana.

India and South Africa have seen enhanced military cooperation especially during the past decade including the fields of military training and procurement of military hardware.

Army Chief rules out differences with govt. over pay hikeNew Delhi, Sep 28 : Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor today said that there are no differences between Government of India and armed forces over the anomalies in the Sixth Pay Commission report.

“I want to clarify that talks of differences between armed forces and Indian Government is not correct and has been played up incorrectly,” the Army Chief said.

General Kapoor said that “we have made our recommendations and government has set up a committee and let see how the deliberations go.”

General Deepak Kapoor to begin UK visit today

New Delhi, Sept 1: Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor will begin a four-day official visit to the United Kingdom today to strengthen existing defence ties.

The visit by the Army Chief will add the necessary impetus to the existing defence relationship and broad-base it into a mutually beneficial partnership.

During his visit, the Army Chief will interact with the senior military and civilian defence hierarchy. He will also discuss various defence related issues to strengthen existing defence ties with UK.

General Kapoor will visit Royal School of Artillery at Larkhill, Defence Academy at Shrivenham, Land Warfare Centre in Salisbury plains, Edinburgh Castle in Scotland and National Army Museum.
