Washington, Jan 7 : President-elect Barack Obama has offered the job of surgeon general to Indian origin doctor Sanjay Gupta, a neurosurgeon and correspondent for CNN and CBS, sources have said.

The Obama transition team approached Dr. Gupta, CNN's chief medical correspondent, about becoming US surgeon general, according to sources inside the transition team.

Washington - US president-elect Barack Obama said Tuesday that he is "deeply concerned" about the fighting in the Gaza Strip and pledged to work effectively to resolve the Middle East conflict when he takes office later this month.

"Starting at the beginning of our administration, we are going to engage effectively and consistently in trying to resolve the conflicts that exist in the Middle East," Obama said.

Washington, Jan. 6 : US President-elect Barack Obama has made his first big foreign-policy mistake in pledging U. S. intervention in the Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan, believes noted South Asian expert Selig S. Harrison.
