In a jolt to former Punjab chief minister and expelled legislator Amarinder Singh, the Supreme Court on Monday refused to allow him to attend the assembly. The budget session is to begin on February 27.

A five-judge constitution bench headed by chief justice KG Balakrishnan declined to grant any interim relief to Singh, expelled last September from the House for alleged involvement in the Amritsar land scam. "We are not inclined to pass any interim order," the bench said, declining the plea to allow Singh to participate in assembly proceedings without the right to vote.

Chandigarh, Sept 15 : A Division Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the custodial interrogation of former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh in connection with a graft case registered by the State’s Vigilance Bureau.

Justices Adarsh Goel and Ajay Tewari also issued notices to the Punjab Assembly through its Secretary and directed him to file the reply on or before October 31.

Last week, the Bench had reserved its judgment on Singh''s plea seeking a stay in the case and on his expulsion from the Punjab Legislative Assembly.
