People using Adderall to improve performance at work

New reports based on the usage of drug Adderall have revealed that adults are abusing the drug to be more productive at work.

The drug is normally prescribed to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and was suspended last September.

The amphetamine-based stimulant is a compound of four stimulants; amphetamine aspartate monohydrate, amphetamine sulfate, dextroamphetamine saccharate and dextroamphetamine sulfate.

Its first generic version was introduced in 2002. It aimed to provide a mental and physical boost to users.

However, according to New York Times report, the drug is being delivered by black market drug dealers to workers who attempt to increase an effort to function for longer hours. Some drug users believe they experience better concentration and understanding under the influence of the drugs.

Some of the drug users get hold of the medicine from their doctors by misrepresenting their physical condition. Reports also showed that it is being prescribed by many psychiatrists and physicians before properly confirming a diagnosis of ADHD.

Also, a percentage of people obtain the stimulant and use it to sell to other people for cash. In addition to Adderall, Concerta and Vyvanse are other prescriptions drugs that are being abused in the workplace.

Doctors are concerned as use of the chemical can cause irregular heartbeat as well as other detrimental health effects. The misuse of these drugs can also cause anxiety, addiction and hallucinations in high doses.

The report said that that from 2010 to 2012, the percentage of people who reported stimulants as their primary mind-altering drug of choice rose 15%.

However, many workers believe that if their colleagues are using them, then they need to use them to keep up as well. They usually get prescription by faking symptoms of ADHD or obtain the prescription drug through illegal dealers and friends.
