Washington, Feb. 4 : The United States may change its strategy on Afghanistan, and focus more on dismantling the terror training camps in Pakistan.

According to The Nation, the Pentagon's top military officers have recommended to President Barack Obama that the US should focus more on eliminating Taliban and Al-Qaeda safe havens in Pakistan, rather than on achieving lasting democracy and a thriving Afghan economy.

Meanwhile, President Obama has already ordered three more combat team brigades for Afghanistan.

The new US administration is also carrying its own review of the Afghan policy amid calls that a military solution would not help stabilize the situation in Afghanistan.

But the final decision on US's strategy on the region will be taken after Obama hear the recommendations from Gen. David Petraeus, in charge of US Central Command, and from Richard Holbrooke, Obama''s civilian envoy to Afghanistan.

The US Defence Secretary Robert Gates has also made it clear that Obama is looking for setting-up limited objectives for Afghanistan.

He added that there is a need of more "effective military action" against the militants along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

Gates accepted that the allied forces would continue to face stiff resistance from the Afghan militants in the region, but they will continue their efforts for achieving the `number one goal' of dismantling Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. (ANI)
