Pawar steers Atre to safety
Opener Sainath Pawar slammed a fine hundred (101) as Abasaheb Atre School gained a massive 227-run first innings lead over Rosary High School, in the Kohinoor Trophy under-14 inter-school cricket tournament at Ammunition Factory ground here on Wednesday.
Rosary High School elected to field first and sent back opening batsman Chetan Pujari in the early overs. Later, Dipesh Sonigra and Rishabh Bamboli picked three wickets each as they knocked off top order. It was only Pawar who played fluently while wickets were trembling at the other end.
Though Saif Mujawar tried to support him with his valuable 25, the other batsman failed to stand at the crease and Atre School declared their innings on 246 after 58 overs. This target proved too much for Rosary as they slumped for just 19 runs in 16 overs.
Brief score: Abasaheb Atre School (1st Inning) 246-9 dec (Sainath Pawar 101, Saif Mujawar 25; Dipesh Sonigra 3-58, Rishabh Bamboli 3-57, Darpan Nagar 2-46); Rosary High School: 19 (Siddarth Kamble 4-3, Suhant Mane 3-0, Vishal Shewate 2-6).
