Pawar denies that PM sought explanation on rising food prices

Pawar denies that PM sought explanation on rising food pricesThe past week saw onion prices soaring so high that they were almost out of reach of the middle class. There were political digs taken at the government over the soaring prices, and also an emergency meeting was called in the capital by the CM Sheila Dikshit.

Ban on onion exports and the waiver of import duty somewhat helped stabilizing the conditions as there were a few trucks of onions imported from our neighbor Pakistan.

Sharad Pawar, the union minister for Agriculture came out with a statement that there was no explanation whatsoever demanded by the PM Manmohan Singh on the rising prices of all the agricultural commodities especially onions.

Pawar also said that the rise in price of onions was a temporary one as the new crops from Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh are all set to arrive in few days.

He also further drew the attention of media towards the climate change which led to unseasonal rains thereby destroying the crops. He also denied giving any explanation on the rising price of Tomato and said that each vegetable's hike could not be explained separately.
