Islamabad, Dec 29 : The head of Pakistan's Taliban said the group is ready to negotiate with the government but not disarm.

The message was delivered via 40-minutes video following three high-profile Taliban attacks in Peshawar this month, an attack by multiple suicide bombers on the airport, the killing of a senior politician and eight others in a bombing and the kidnap of 22 paramilitary forces on Thursday.

The banned militant group's head Hakimullah Mehsud said that they `believe in dialogue but it should not be frivolous, adding that, `asking us to lay down arms is a joke.'

According to the Daily Times, Mehsud, in the video, was sitting cradling a rifle next to his deputy, Waliur Rehman.

Military officials say there has been a split between the two men but Mehsud said that was propaganda.

The Taliban said in a letter released on Thursday said that they wanted Pakistan to rewrite its laws and constitution to conform with Islamic law.

It also asked the government to break its alliance with the United States and stop interfering in the war in Afghanistan and focus on India instead. (ANI)
