Lahore, Oct 2 : The Pakistan Government is planning to promulgate an ordinance in the next 48 hours that would have an enormous bearing on the reported understanding between President Pervez Musharraf and former premier Benazir Bhutto, highly placed sources have said.

The ordinance would grant amnesty to all politicians, bankers and bureaucrats from all charges relating to misdemeanours, misconduct and misuse of power between 1985 and 2007, sources said.

The National Reconciliation Ordinance would apply to all those against whom such allegations are outstanding in courts of law and who have not been convicted, sources said.

As such, the ordinance would apply to former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, but not to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, they added.

Sources said that the Parliament would be called back on October 4 to allow the ordinance to go through.

Earlier, Bhutto had said that her support to Musharraf depended on the General accepting her proposals, including immunity from prosecution for civilians who ruled between 1988 and 1999 and the lifting of a ban on a Prime Minister serving a third term.

The Daily Times quoted Bhutto as saying that she would return to Pakistan "at any cost." (With inputs from ANI)
