Packaged and Processed Foods contain too Much Salt
The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a warning where it stated that packaged and processed foods contain huge amount of salt. According to the federal agency, producers have been constantly ignoring the fact that higher salt intake leads to serious health issues.
The high amount of salt in food could lead to increase in blood pressure or hypertension, which further leads to stroke and heart attacks. In addition, consuming high amount of salt is linked to stomach cancer, obesity, osteoporosis, kidney stones and many other diseases.
According to a new report released by CDC, the salt content found in a lot of packaged and processed foods is too high. The agency also said that food producers know that the food contain high amount of salt that could be dangerous for the health of public, but still they have been ignoring the salt content guidelines. The producers also do not inform consumers about high concentrations of salt in the foods. This could be a major reason why nine out of 10 children consume too much salt, as per the agency.
The report by CDC stated that packaged foods overstep the federal guidelines. From a long time, public health authorities have been pushing for a reduction in salt as high amount of salt is responsible for high blood pressure and many other health problems.
During a recent study, the national public health institute tried to find out if an individual’s chances of suffering from health problems like high blood pressure varied in accordance with their geographical location. The study was also conducted to determine whether salt content varied in accordance with the region in which they were sold and produced.
The study did not find any clue of such links, but found that producers use high amount of salt to make packaged foods across all areas that were included in the study.
