Opposition protests against UPA economic policies
New Delhi Apr 24 : Members of Parliament of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Janata Dal-United JD (U), the Bharatiya Janata Dal (BJD) and the Akali Dal today assembled before the Mahatam Gandhi's statue in New Delhi to protest against the UPA Government’s economic policies.
They also formed a human chain to highlight the Centre's failure in checking the price rise.
"Prices of essential commodities have gone up whenever the Congress has come to power. The government has completely failed to check the price rise," BJP President Rajnath Singh claimed.
The parliamentarians were draped in banners, which carried slogans like "Congress, Communists responsible for price rise" and "Check price rise or quit".
Senior BJP leaders L K Advani, Jaswant Singh, Sushma Swaraj, V K Malhotra, Hema Malini along with JD (U) leaders George Fernandes, Sharad Yadav and Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi took part in the protest.
The opposition is planning a general strike on May 2 on the issue. (ANI)
