Ola Electric to launch New Electric Scooter S1X on Independence Day in India
Ola Electric will be launching a new electric scooter in Indian market on Independence Day (15 August). Ola Electric founder Bhavish Aggarwal teased with little details about the upcoming electric scooter from Ola Electric. The company has managed to garner strong support in Indian market with its innovative and stylish models. While the price could be out of reach for many riders in India, Ola Electric is still having a decent demand for its models across the country. The electric scooters have a mix of performance and affordability in terms of running costs. With rising cost of fuel, many consumers are opting for electric vehicles in India. Ola is planning to launch upcoming S1X with price tag below Rs 1 lakh.
Ola recently launched S1 Air and the company has been offering affordable options to consumers in the recent times. S1 Air was launched at ex-showroom price of Rs 1.1 lakh in New Delhi. of It is also possible that with higher sales, Ola has managed to reduce its costs. Electric vehicle manufacturers have been enjoying strong margins (except for some US automobile majors like Ford) as these vehicles are priced higher compared to ICE versions. Additionally, the cost of battery modules has been coming down. In the near future, we could also see batteries with larger capacity costing less than the currently available variants. Many companies are working on improving battery performance and this could allow for longer range per charge.
As per a report published in business magazine, THE KEN, Ola Electric is more interested in selling its electric vehicles instead of offering after sales services. As we have seen in the part, many electric vehicles need very little repair. Tesla Motors is electric vehicles leader and the company needs to spend little on repair infrastructure. As per THE KEN article, “Ola boasts a nationwide presence with 600 physical stores, yet its service centres number just over 200. While Ola Electric rides high with a 40% electric two-wheeler market share, its after-sales service needs a turbo boost. Compared to Ola, Bajaj Auto is selling electric scooters only in the markets it has strong after sales services.”
At the recent launch event of Ola Electric scooter, a consumer in the crowd asked the company management about after sales services. The response from management was not satisfactory and led to further questions from Ola’s consumer base. The event was discussed on social media as well.
Anticipated to come with various features tailored to urban commuting, the S1X is aiming to provide an alternative to traditional, petrol-powered scooters with its electric offerings.
The S1X is set to be even more budget-friendly than its predecessor, the S1 Air, which is priced at ₹1.10 lakh ex-showroom. This move perfectly aligns with Ola Electric's mission to make electric vehicles accessible to a broader range of consumers.
A key factor that will determine the success of the Ola S1X is its impressive range. With an estimated range of around 100 km, the Ola S1X is designed to meet the daily commuting needs of users. Its sibling, the S1 Air, offers a certified range of 125 km, while the more powerful S1 Pro boasts an impressive 181 km range on a single full charge, with prices starting from Rs 1.4 lakh.
Ola Electric has already garnered significant attention with its previous scooter launch. The S1 Air received praise for its performance, range, and overall design. With the introduction of the S1X, Ola Electric hopes to broaden its customer base by appealing to budget-conscious buyers eager to embrace electric mobility.
Ola Electric's strategy of offering more affordable options in the growing Indian electric scooter market aligns perfectly with the government's push for sustainable transportation and the rising demand for eco-friendly vehicles.
As the release date draws nearer, more details about the S1X will be unveiled, including pricing, specifications, and availability. The launch of the S1X will mark another milestone for Ola Electric as it continues to revolutionize the Indian electric vehicle market and make green mobility a reality for all.
Ola Electric currently owns 40 percent market share in Indian electric scooter segment. The company has been backed by cash rich Softbank and has plans to expand its network and product offerings in India.
