Oil spill -The Shark Killer
For all of those who might have thought that the catastrophe oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico had resulted in nothing else but a disastrous effect on the economy, they need to think again, because researchers have expressed there deep concern over the dangerous effect of this oil spill on the whale shark.
These whale sharks that in late spring migrate to Mississippi river west of New Orleans as their natural habitat, this migration are proving to be the cause of their death now.
The matter of concern here is the oil, as in an effort to feed themselves they are unknowingly coming in contact with the oil and killing themselves. The world’s largest fish, already on the red list of threatened species by World Conservation Union is now finding it difficult to stay away from the unstoppable oil spill. The incomplete knowledge regarding the exact number of sharks dying is further making it difficult for the researchers to formulate an exact strategy to save them.
The weather condition is also unfavorable and is speeding up the spreading of oil. In the present scenario, the only way to save them is to pray that they don’t feed themselves from the oily water or else the entire species might go extinct.
