Ocumetics Bionic Lens could Provide Vision three times better than 20/20

Ocumetics Technology Corporation's optometrist Garth Webb's newly developed bionic lens could mean patients to have vision up to three times better than 20/20. The 'Ocumetics Bionic Lens' need to be implanted into the eyes and the procedure will take just eight minutes.

The procedure of implanting is considered to be painless and does not require anesthesia or overnight stay at the hospital. In the procedure, the lens is placed in the eye using a saline solution-filled syringe. In just 10 seconds, the bionic eye comes over the eye correcting the eye sight.

As per Webb, the implant makes images sharper. Webb said that the lens was made in order to provide beyond-perfect vision. In fact, it could also provide the patient's natural lens from damage and decay.

"Ocumetics Technology Corporation is pleased to announce the development of one of the world's most advanced intraocular lenses, one that is capable of restoring quality vision at all distances, without glasses, contact lenses or corneal refractive procedures", affirmed Ocumetrics.

The optometrist said that people who will get their lens implanted would not suffer from cataracts as the natural lenses of the eyes are replaced with artificial ones. The bionic lens is quite safe to use. They are made up of materials that do not cause any biophysical changes within the eye.

Another great feature of the bionic lens is that its quality will not deteriorate over time. Webb said the lens can even last 100 year. The lens has to get a go-ahead and once it gets the same then the lens plus surgery cost will be around $1,000. By 2017, the lens could be available and will be available for individuals who are 25 years old.
