Oculus raises $75 million to market its virtual reality headsetOculus VR has successfully raised $75 million in the Series B round of funding led by venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz to market its eagerly-awaited virtual-reality headset for video games, called Oculus Rift.

Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe said that the infusion of most recently secured funds into the venture and the leadership and experience of Marc Andreessen would help the venture to take the final steps towards its ultimate goal of enabling consumers to reap the benefits of virtual reality everywhere.

The Oculus Rift device can be described as a virtual reality headset which displays content in 3D with 110 degrees diagonally field of view. The upcoming device will enable gamers to view content from all angles, viz. front, above, below and behind. Variants of the device will display content in 1080p high-definition (HD) resolution.

Praising the new device, Andreessen said in a statement, "Oculus will not only alter the gaming landscape but will redefine fundamental human experiences in areas like film, education, architecture, and design."

Andreessen, who get a seat in Oculus VR's board, added that Oculus was at the tip of the iceberg of its real potential, and Andreessen Horowitz was very excited to help it reach its full potential and change the world.
