Nursing mothers on antidepressants have more advantages than risks

Nursing mothers on antidepressants have more advantages than risksNursing mothers have always been warned of taking any added medications as it may affect their baby by entering the breast milk.  This is the reason why some new mothers delay their antidepressants prescription.

However, as per the recommendation of a new study women on antidepressants are more effective at breastfeeding in the event that they keep taking the medicine. The study was released at the eighteenth Perinatal Society of Australia and New Zealand Annual Conference held in Perth.

The Mayo Clinic in the US confirms that most new mothers experience temperamental moods and episodes of frequent crying which cast away easily. Whereas, some new mothers have a rather serious and prolonged kind of depression which is medically referred to as post partum depression.

This post partum is, in most cases, treated with professional counselling and medicines but the Mayo Clinic notes that there could be potential dangers of the medicine getting into the infant's body through breast milk.

But post pregnancy anxiety also comes with several other manifestations, which, if untreated, could meddle with the mother's capability to look after her infant and other day to day activities.

These manifestations could be any of the following: a sleeping disorder, fractiousness and outrage, exhaustion, extreme temperament swings, withdrawal and considerations of harm toward oneself or even hurting the child.
