Number of Americans filing for Unemployment Benefit increased last Week

The United States Department of Labor released a weekly report, stating that the number of Americans filing jobless claims increased. But, according to the report, the four-week average was the lowest in last one and half decade.

According to the cabinet-level department of the United States federal government, jobless claims by people in the United States have increased by about 14,000 to 281,000 in the week that ended on April 4. The department also stated that the claims were less than forecasts by economists. Before this, the economists forecasted that jobless claims would be 283,000. The jobless claims in the previous week were revised to about 267,000 and the four- week average fell by about 3,000 to 282,250.

The department also stated that despite concerns that the United States employment market had hit a severe damage last month. That time, only 126,000 jobs were created in the country. The latest report stated that fewer people in United States than ever filed for jobless claims over the last four weeks.

The department also stated that initial claims for state unemployment benefits increased by about 14,000 in the week that ended on April 4. The last week's claims were downwardly revised by 1,000, while jobless claims for this week tended to range from about 280,000 to 285,000.

According to the department, "For the past four weeks, the moving average for jobless claims averaged 282,250, a decline of 3,000 claims and the lowest number of since June 2000; claims below 300,000 are indicative of a labor market that's improving".
