Nuclear Contract will Cease to Exist If India Conducts Test, Says U.S.
Washington: The United States has elucidated that the civilian nuclear transaction with India will be “ceased” in the event of an atomic test by New Delhi.
Sean McCormack, U.S. State Department representative said, “The proposed 123 agreement has provisions in it that in an event of a nuclear test by India, then all nuclear cooperation is terminated.”
The presenter also stated that there is condition for arrival of all materials comprising recycled material covered by the contract
India has been maintaining that the 123 agreement is unspoken with respect to testing.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Parliament on Monday that the accord to operationalize the civilian nuclear transaction would not have an effect on India’s rightfulness to carry out future nuclear tests.
“Let me hence reiterate once again that a decision to undertake future nuclear test would be our sovereign decision, one that rests solely with the Government,” he added.
