NTU to join AIMTC’s infinite strike
The Nagpur Truckers Unity (NTU) has announced its decision to join AIMTC's infinite strike and keep trucks off-road from April 1.
AIMTC (All India Motor Transport Congress), which has a base of 75 lakh trucks and 40 lakh bus owners, has called an infinite strike starting April 1 to protest against the government's alleged faulty policies.
More precisely, the strike has been called to protest increases in third-party insurance premium, national permit charges, road tax, and partial decontrol of diesel prices as well as anti-dumping duty on import of tyres.
Announcing decision to join the strike, NTU President Kukku Marwah said, "If the government fails to resolve our issues by March 30, then all nationwide operations of trucking and transportation would be suspended indefinitely from midnight of March 1."
Marwah however assured that the strike would not affect the transportation of essential items, such as vegetables, fruits and medicines.
The leaders of the union took the decision at a meeting at Gandhibagh on Friday.
AIMTC is demanding the government to declare industry status for the road transport sector, fix minimum freight rates and also to take action against states indulged in illegal entry.
