November 28 records highest ever Cyber Monday sales
The Monday on November 28 recorded the highest ever sales on Cyber Monday, which is the shopping season's biggest online holiday.
The sales rose 18 per cent as customers rushed online to get the best Cyber Monday deals of the holiday season. The web traffic recorded a rise of 43% from last year while the sales increased 18 per cent compared to the cyber Monday in 2010, according to delivery network Akamai.
Matt Shay, CEO of the National Retail Federation said that the sales on Monday as well as the weekend show that the retail is "providing a needed shot in the arm to our nascent recovery." Electronic goods were the most popular items this year and the sales grew 26%. Customers picked up products like flat-screen TVs and digital cameras in huge quantities online.
Richelle Parham, chief marketing officer for eBay North America said that company sold out its special offer iPad costing $449 in less than two hours. Mobile payment volume also recorded a substantial increase of 514 percent as of this afternoon, according to PayPal. Amazon. com Inc., EBay and other Internet retailers reveal various attractive offers to boost sales on the Monday after Thanksgiving.
