Seoul, Oct 14 - North Korea Wednesday expressed regret for its abrupt release of dam water Sep 6 that led to the death of six South Koreans, Xinhua reported.

North Korea's remark came during a meeting held between the two Koreas on river flood prevention at the border city of Kaesong, said South Korea's Unification Ministry spokeswoman Lee Jong-joo.

Lee said Seoul has yet to decide whether to accept North Korea's remark as an apology.

The meeting between the two sides started Wednesday morning, a day after Pyongyang accepted Seoul's proposal to hold government-level talks on related issues.

On Sep 6, North Korea's abrupt discharge of its dam water led to death of six South Koreans who had been camping near the Imjin river.

Although South Korea asked for an apology for the discharge, North Korea kept saying it was forced to open the floodgates to lower the water level. (IANS)
