Nokia ties up with Groupon to offer promotions on phones
Handset maker, Nokia has tied up with Groupon Inc to offer attractive deals on its handsets for the customers.Nokia will now be able to feature Groupon offers on its Lumia smartphones, a move that is aimed at the US customers. The two companies announced the partnership on Wednesday, under which the Groupon Now! Offers now feature on Nokia maps with a green "G" icon.
The users will be able to purchase the offer on the phone and can use the Nokia navigation system to get the directions to the location to redeem the offer. Michael Halbherr, Nokia's executive vice president of location and commerce said that it is the first of its kind deal for the company and Nokia will not look at more ways to generate revenues through its maps like allowing users to make reservations or bookings.
The Finnish cellphone maker is trying to reverse a fall in its market share. The company is facing tough competition from the likes of Apple and devices based on Google's Android platform. Nokia has tied up with Microsoft to offer devices based on its Windows Phone platform.
Nokia has not announced the financial details of the deal with Groupon.
