Nokia Lumia 920 incompatible with India’s 4G network
Finnish handset maker Nokia's flagship smartphone, the Lumia 920, will support 9 LTE bands but will not work on 4G networt in India.
Nokia's official Indian website clearly lists all the bands that the Lumia 920 smartphone will work on. The website says that the device will work on LTE 2100 and LTE 2600 networks, but the list of bandwidths does not include LTE 2300, which is the standard (4G) bandwidth in India.
The Indian arm of the handset maker has confirmed that the lists mentioned on its website are correct, ruling out all possibilities of 4G connectivity in the country.
It means owners of the new Nokia smartphone in the country will not be able to reap the benefits of the 4G network, which offers super-fast download speeds. But, this will not be a major issue for most potential buyers of the smartphone in the country since 4G is available in only a few big cities.
The Lumia 920 is scheduled to be launched in India in January. Nokia is still silent about the new phone's pricing, experts suggest that it would cost in the range Rs 35,000 to Rs 40,000.
After suffering a string of financial losses due to massive decline in sales and loss of most of its market share to rivals like Samsung and Apple, Nokia is now betting on the success of the Lumia series of phones, which run Microsoft Corp.'s Windows Phone 8 OS.
