Nokia launches Life Tools in Maharashtra

Leading mobile and equipment manufacture, Nokia, under a revenue-sharing agreement with Maharashtra government, introduced Nokia Life Tools, a special service for agriculture, entertainment and education sector, across the state.

The services would be soon extended in other states starting from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh within few days. The company also plans to launch it in some Asian and African countries later this year.
Nokia said, in a press statement, “MSAMB will also have the opportunity to deliver relevant news, alerts on schemes and other information directly to grassroots consumers.”

The mobile manufacture has signed an agreement with Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board (MSAMB) for providing services related to agriculture including latest price updates and other information for peasantry of the state.

Nokia India Managing Director, D Shivakumar said that news, alerts and commodity updates from 291 local mandis would be delivered over handsets of rural subscribers through Reuters Market Light, enabling farmers to get adequate rate for their crops.

He further added, “We believe this is the beginning of a historical journey that will take mobility to grassroots and make a positive difference to the lives of people in the areas that are crucial to them.”
However, Mr. Shivakumar declined to divulge the financial details of the agreement with MSAMB.
