Thousands Goldfish causing problem in Colorado Lake

About two years ago, someone had dumped some goldfish into a Colorado lake. The handful of goldfish reproduced and now they are thousands in numbers. On Friday, the state wildlife officials stated that the non-native fish are now threatening indigenous aquatic species.

Jennifer Churchill, spokeswoman of the Colorado Parks and Wildlife, said that last month, rangers in Boulder County found a number of fish in a semi-rural lake. According to Churchill, it is a very serious problem and it should be resolved as soon as possible. At present, there are more than 3,000 gold fish in the lake, as per Churchill. State biologists have been reviewing the best way to eliminate the pet fish from the lake, the spokeswoman added.

Remains of tsunami-destroyed Japanese Boat found in Oregon

Researchers have discovered a 25-foot chunk of fiberglass that appears to have come from a Japanese fishing boat, which was thought to be destroyed four years ago after getting a hit from a deadly earthquake and subsequent tsunami. The fiberglass was discovered thousands of miles away from its home on Thursday in the waters off the coast of Oregon. The researchers found several live yellowtail jack fish on board the flotsam.

The catastrophic event shivered Japan four years ago, killing more than 18,000 people and causing 300 billion worth of damage.

Sea turtles do not behave as passive drifters: Study

A new research from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the University of Central Florida has revealed that sea turtles do not float with the current.

It has been believed that after hatching, sea turtles swim offshore and simply drift with ocean currents until their swimming skills improve. Some reside in mats of seaweed that provide them shelter and habitat.

However, the study claims that they are strong swimmers from a very early age, i.e. from the age of 6 to 18 months. After vanishing for the duration of their very first years of life, they return to coastlines as grown-ups to grow or to lay eggs.

SpaceX all set for Monday launch

SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch is going to take place on Monday and the Dragon resupply spacecraft is filled with research equipment.

An array of supplies is meant to help astronauts perform experiments while in space. NASA Astronaut and Russian Cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko are human health study subjects as part of their one-year mission living at the International Space Station (ISS).

It is hoped that scientists will able to better understand humans handle long-duration spaceflight from them. The Fluid Shifts Study will take help of Kelly and Kornienko in order to watch the shifting position of bodily fluids.

Our Sun formed after stellar ‘baby boom’ of Milky Way Galaxy: Study

A new research published in the Astrophysical Journal has revealed that Sun is five billion years old.

According to the researchers, Milky Way galaxy birthed a good number of stars during the ‘baby boom’ period about ten billion years ago. However, the Earth’s Sun emerged only five billion years ago.

Although there is no photographic evidence to show how the Milky Way looked like at that time, the research team was able to come up with an album of about 2,000 images, which displayed photos of Milky Way-like galaxies.

This gave the best idea of how the Milky Way had grown in the ten billion years since the baby boom period. The photos indicated that galaxies underwent a big change in the mass of its stars over the past 10 billion years.
