London, Jun 22 : A new survey has revealed that smokers are so stressed owing to the economic downturn that they are putting off quitting the habit.

As British people worry about their job security, paying their bills and putting food on the table, 23 percent of the smokers surveyed have said that they are delaying plans to kick the butt.

Another 28 per cent believed they had been too stressed to make a successful attempt to quit in the past six months.

London, June 22 : The Dalai Lama has said there is no need for his successor to perform the two roles he has had to bear during his life, serving as both a spiritual and political leader.

In a video clip shown to hundreds of monks, nuns and lay people gathered in Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh, the Dalai Lama said it was essential that the Tibetan community in exile embraced democracy if it were to keep step with the wider world.

Jammu, June 22 : Army on Monday foiled militants bid to target the Amarnath yatra by defusing an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

According to sources, militants had planted the high intensity IED in Panthal area to target a convoy of the Amarnath Yatra.

The cavalcade of 53 vehicles, which is carrying 1,703 pilgrims, was resumed after one hour-long halt at Panthal, 155 kms from Jammu.

A latest survey released by a government organization paints a grim picture on country’s national capital, New Delhi.

As per the Delhi Economic Survey (2008-2009), the number of children dying within the first year of birth has almost doubled during the past two years in New Delhi.

The figures which were tabled in the Delhi Legislative Assembly recently disclosed that the infant mortality rate (IMR) in 2007 was 25.4 deaths per 1,000 children under one year old, compared with 12.9 in 2006 and 18.1 in 2005.
