Japan’s Akatsuki Probe is finally orbiting Venus

Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) announced Wednesday that its Venus Climate Orbiter ‘Akatsuki’ has successfully entered into orbit around the second planet from the sun.

The space agency confirmed that the probe has been interned into the planet’s orbit after an initial attempt failed five years ago. With the success, Akatsuki has become the first Japanese spacecraft to enter into another planet’s orbit, JAXA added.

Masato Nakamura, project managet at JAXA, said during a press conference that the spacecraft has been functioning properly. “We'll conduct an initial observation for three months... We'll then shift to full observation in April”, he added.

Viral Image showing How Dolphins See People Meets with Skepticism

An image of what dolphins see has been everywhere. Folks behind the viral image claimed it demonstrates what a dolphin sees when a human is in front of it. The marine creature uses echolocation to get a feel for their surroundings.

Experts say dolphins are wicked smart, but that intelligence is still a mystery. Jack Kassewitz from SpeakDolphin.com said the recent success may help experts know about the creature. It is now safe to consider that the marine creature uses ‘sono-pictorial’ form of language to know about its surroundings. If it is explained in near future, it may reveal several interesting things about the species and its communication system, Kassewitz added.

ISS gets its first US shipment after several months

On Wednesday, the International Space Station (ISS) received its first US shipments after several months. The Orbital ATK's Cygnus cargo ship carried along with it more than 7,000 pounds (3,000 kilograms) of water, food and supplies for global astronauts.

NASA astronaut Kjell Lindgren using the space station’s big robotic arm grabbed the capsule and its 3 ½ tons of cargo. The operation went smoothly, NASA Mission control reported.

The supply ship Cygnus was launched into orbit on Sunday from Cape Canaveral, Florida. NASA's commercial shipper, Orbital ATK, used another company's rocket for the launch.

D-Wave 2X Quantum Computer Revealed Before Media on Tuesday

The unique D-Wave 2X quantum computer at NASA’s Advanced Supercomputing facility in Silicon Valley was showed to media on Tuesday. The machine appears to be very impressive and engineers are even planning to sue it for a new area of computing.

The machine is even used by researchers at universities. It is linked to internet like other NASA supercomputers that are made available for academics.

Engineers who displayed the machine on Tuesday appeared very keen to talk about its outstanding features, but they seemed less interested in talking about the security measures in place to stop hackers.

David Bell, director at the Universities Space Research Association, in response to a question, said, “It’s behind various security firewalls, with RSA security tokens to get in”.

New Ultra Fast Camera Can See Thing Even If Kept Out Of Its Sight

A team of researchers at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, has recently developed a new unique camera which is so fast and quick that it can see around corners to track hidden objects in real time.

According to its makers, the camera uses echo mapping, which is an established technique used to locate objects around a corner. The same technique has been previously used by other cameras, but the thing makes the new camera different from other cameras is that it can do this in real time.

Genevieve Gariepy, co-lead researcher on the project, said, “This could be incredibly helpful for [computer assisted] vehicles to avoid collisions around sharp turns ... or for emergency responders looking around blind corners in dangerous situations”.
