A California lab, owned by Theranos, a Silicon Valley company, was targeted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for not being in compliance with its regulation, in November. The CMS is responsible for monitoring clinical laboratories. The lab was found to have gone through deficient practices, which could be a danger to health and safety of patients. The company has 40 retail locations across metro Phoenix. The company said it has already corrected the fallouts and would continue to meet regulations.

The CMS inspectors found five lab areas in problem, and the most serious one was hematology, when they inspected the Newark, Calif., lab on November 20. Following, the body has issued direction to Theranos to correct an infraction that has potential to cause harm.

The research was done on women diagnosed with melanoma and was published in JAMA Dermatology. Two women, Rachel Hagan and Surina Howard, were part of the study among other 63 women group researched. Hagan is a light-skinned and was 34 when doctor spot a mole on her leg, which indicated that she had melanoma, while Howard is darker and was diagnosed with the skin cancer at the age of 20, when a tiny spot on her forehead was declared melanoma.

A study published in 27 January edition of journal Nature has provided some clues that can help in understanding cause behind the psychiatric disorder.

On Wednesday, DeepMind, a research organization under Google’ Alphabet, announced that its computer program has won against a high-ranking professional Go player.

The organization reported that the program, dubbed as AlphaGo, which combines two algorithms, defeated the human player in a series of five matches of highly complex Chinese strategy game. Results of the game have been published by journal Nature in its January 27 edition.
