Women may remember words more than men during the early stages of Alzheimer's disease (AD). A latest study suggested that this could delay diagnosis and treatment among women who have same levels of shrinkage in brain areas related to the debilitating disease.

The areas demonstrate the earliest proof of the most common kind of dementia. In the United States, Alzheimer's disease is the 6th main cause of death in people, and an estimated two-thirds of people who contract AD are women.

Dr. Erin E. Sundermann from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, said, “One way to interpret the results is that because women have better verbal memory skills than men throughout life, women have a buffer of protection against loss of verbal memory before the effects of Alzheimer's disease kick in”.

According to a new ProPublica analysis, doctors who get more money from drug and medical device makers prescribe more brand-name medications. The authors of the study have warned that the conclusion made by them after analyzing Medicare Part D prescription drug data, doesn’t suggest a direct relation between payments and doctors who chose to prescribe drugs from the particular companies making the payments.

However, they have found an apparent connection between average rates of total brand-name prescribing and getting industry money.

The practice improves the revenue of pharmaceutical companies. The trend could get stronger, when doctors receive additional industry money.

Possible health risks make Bumble Bee Foods and Tri-Union Seafoods to voluntarily recall canned chunk light tuna. The company informed in an official statement, “These deviations were part of the commercial sterilization process and could result in contamination by spoilage organisms or pathogens, which could lead to life-threatening illness if consumed”. So far, there is no report of any illness related to the recalled tuna.

As per Steve Mavity, Bumble Bee's senior vice president, technical services and corporate quality, the recalls are linked. Mavity said that Bumble Bee has recalled some particular codes of canned Chunk Light Tuna that have been produced in Chicken of the Sea's Georgia production facility. It is Bumble Bee’s third-party supplier.

On Thursday, the local authorities informed that two people have tested positive for Ebola in Guinea. The confirmation has come months after the outbreak was declared over in the West African country and hours after Sierra Leone declared that the recent flare-up of the virus has come to an end there.

Ibrahima Sylla, spokesman for the national coordination for the fight against Ebola, said that the cases belong to the same family in Koropara, located in the N’Zerekore region, roughly 1,000 kilometers southeast of Conakry, Guinea’s capital.

Sylla said that there are three other likely cases, and health authorities have taken important measures to restrict the spread.

Astronomers using the Very Large Array (VLA) have come up with new images of a young star, revealing what scientists think could be the quite initial stages in the planets’ formation.

The VLA has been used by scientists to witness extraordinary details of the inside part of a dusty disk present around the star, at a distance of around 450 light-years from Earth.

In 2014, scientists used Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) to study the star and its disk, and at that time, it produced what astronomers dubbed as the best photograph ever, depicting planet formation in progress.

As part of a new proposal, Guantánamo Bay Naval Base, which includes the well known detention center, could be changed into a marine conservation area and an international peace park, once the inmates vacant it.
