Bengaluru, (Karnataka), [India], Sept. 21 : Former Karnataka chief minister B. S. Yeddyurappa on Wednesday termed the Supreme Court's order on the Cauvery issue as unfortunate and accused the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in the state of not taking up the issue properly.

Yeddyurappa told ANI, "We are not happy. We never expected such a verdict from the Supreme Court. This has happened because of the failure of the chief minister, the (state) government did not take up this issue properly. The Supreme Court verdict is most unfortunate."

The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed Karnataka to release 6,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu from 21 to 27 September daily.

Poonch (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], Sept. 21 : Various schemes being run by the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) under the state government are providing opportunities to the unemployed youth of the state to enable them build their future and give wings to their dreams.

The department, apart from providing the required resources, is motivating the unemployed youth to acquire an entrepreneurial spirit and set up their own businesses.

As many as 350 big and small units are running in Poonch district itself under different schemes of the JKEDI department. The department is also providing training to fresh batches for self employment.

One such example is Mohammad Jafayat, who is currently running a dairy farm.

New York [United States] Sept. 21 : Pakistan Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry yesterday raised country's "serious concerns" over the situation in Jammu and Kashmir with European Union Secretary General for External Affairs Helga Schmid during their meeting on the sidelines of the 71st UNGA session in New York.

Chaudhry briefed his EU counterpart about alleged "human rights violations" committed by India against Kashmiris.

The European Union noted Pakistan's concerns and inquired about the current state of bilateral relations between India and Pakistan.

According to sources, India is set to raise the Uri attack - in which 18 Army soldiers were killed - at the 71st UNGA session and highlight Pakistan's alleged involvement in the deadly terror strike.

New Delhi [India], Sept. 21 : Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Syed Muazzem Ali has said his country's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is yet to take a decision on whether to attend or not to attend the upcoming South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit to be held in Pakistan capital Islamabad in November.

Geneva [Switzerland], Sept. 20 : Members of United Kashmir People's National Party (UKPNP) on Tuesday held a protest outside the United Nations (UN) office in Geneva, demanding the formation of a commission by the UN to investigate the killing of Aarif Sahid, leader of All Party National Alliance (APNA), allegedly by Pakistan for raising his voice for the Kashmiris in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The protesters raised slogans "Long live Arif Sahid" and "Stop terrorism in Kashmir", and demanded Sahid be declared a martyr.

Jamil Maqsood, a leader of the UKPNP present during the protest, said Sahid was killed by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence.

New York [US], Sept. 20 : U.S. President Barack Obama has called upon International Community to reject all forms of fundamentalism, while saying that nations should stop proxy wars.

Delivering his last speech at the United Nations General Assembly on its 71st session, Obama said the international community should reject terrorism and there is need to embrace the tolerance that results from respect for all human beings.

"The world is too small, we are all too packed together to be following the old ways of thinking. We must reject the fundamentalism...instead we need to embrace the tolerance that results from respect for all human beings," Obama said.
